As we flow deeper into autumn, we  turn our thoughts to the spiritual lessons this beautiful season of harvest holds for each one of us.

We watch leaves fluttering to the ground in the autumn and are reminded that nature's cycles are mirrored in our lives. Autumn is a time for letting go and releasing things that have been an inconvenience in our lives, for some it may involve finding the strength to forgive, for others it may mean the relinquishment of anger. Spiritual practices can help bring you closer to the spirit of nature. Autumn is the right time to practice a deeper connection to Mother Earth, which can encourage love and abundance. If you really want to connect with Mother Earth physically, try to spend at least 5 minutes outside everyday. Pay attention to your surroundings and try to quiet your chattering thoughts. Let your bare feet touch the dew-jeweled soil and ask Mother Earth for her blessings.

It is at this time we start to require more warmth as the temperature drops. What about the warmth in our hearts? An exchange of kindness and acts of generosity can warm even the coldest of souls. Autumn reminds us of the impermanence of everything. We have experienced the shoots of life in spring and the flowerings and scented blossoms of summer. Now the leaves fall and bare branches remind us of the transient nature of all things. The changes of nature in autumn are a deep reminder of how we should be more appreciative of all the beauties that surround us.

Autumn also brings home to our consciousness death and the challenge to live every day to the fullest. Susan Jeffers in ‘Embracing Uncertainty’ gives us a spiritual practice to facilitate this twofold movement: "I was once told that certain spiritual masters in Tibet used to set their teacups upside down before they went to bed each night as a reminder that all life was impermanent. And then, when they awoke each morning, they turned their teacups right side up again with the happy thought, 'I'm still here!' This simple gesture was a wonderful reminder to celebrate every moment of the day."

It is vital that each one of us takes the time to connect with our soul and inner being. We can help you to find the spiritual practice that is right for you at this time in your life. Please take a look at our extensive range of workshops, retreats and classes covering the UK, we are sure you will find something that attracts you.
