At last, the days have begun to be perceptibly longer
Though cold is still with us, warmer winds chase at its heels
and sunshine breaks more frequently through gloomy grey
Like an unwelcome guest, winter hangs around in the lounge
he’s made himself at home
leaving wet and icy rubbish on the floor and furniture
And yet, we begin to feel that spring is on its way
Spring, with its reawakening of hidden somnolent life
heralds a time of productivity, fertility, and new energy
Seeds begin to stir beneath the crust
Sensing the change ahead
Gathering energy for a glorious eruption
We too know the times of killing frosts -
Those times in our lives when the chill takes our very breath
Drains the warmth of love from our hearts
And leaves us capable of little but sleep
Deep in the protective darkness of earth
Alone, sheltered from the elements
Now we too feel the change to come
we too sense the gathering of energy within -
the readiness for a new season of creativity
The sunshine of compassion warms our sheltered covering
Something stirs within – a forgotten longing
An inkling of the connectedness that our lips could not speak
Reemergence – resurgence – resurrection
as powerful as germination, as tender as seedlings, as certain as the coming of spring
It comes again and again
As ever it shall
Hope is in the air
The dark days are waning
Prepare for the coming of the light
We give thanks for every awakening
For every spring
For every day of sunshine
May we join our light to that life-giving blaze
